The Virgin Mary in all her forms represents female characteristics of the divine in all her forms.

One of the cool things about the Virgin is that her veneration didn’t come from the church, it came from the people. That makes sense. The Latin church is very patriarchal, but in physical or emotional pain, most people’s first instinct is to go to mother.
As patron saint of various countries and towns, the Virgin Mary has come to represent many of the peoples of the world. In the broadest sense, she represents Mother Earth, the mother of us all.
