About
Trap is urban rap music with house influences from Atlanta, Georgia. It came up in the 1990s.
Trap’s signature is the rolling high hat, and a flat, tired vocal style that mimics being stoned.
A “trap” is Atlanta slang for a drug den. That’s the kind of place you hope you never see. Trap music is about hustling on the street, and the frustration of being forced into it because you don’t have any other opportunities.
Latin Trap is mostly sung in Spanish by reggaeton artists. It came up out of La Perla, Llorens and other places in Puerto Rico on “El Pistolon” in 2007.
The street life lyrics are extremely explicit, but the music is actually great for making love.
