New York Flamenco NYC is at the Spanish social clubs in Manhattan and Queens, some restaurants and bars, and many theaters.
Every year, the Flamenco Festival New York brings a new crop of the best Spanish dancers and musicians as they start their American tours. The Flamenco Certamen is a flamenco talent competition of the USA. We have a couple of great legacy Spanish flamenco dance companies, and many excellent newcomers, from both Spain and the Americas.
The Spaniards think they’re the only real flamenco artists, but forget that we were once New Spain. The cajon (African Diaspora box drum) and rumba flamenca are traditions from the Americas that have become traditional flamenco. In fact, the wealth of Iberia came from the Americas.
Rosalía’s urban flamenco fusions have triggered a flamenco renaissance around the world. The Spanish dance is one of the proofs that for humans, there is no such thing as pure. We are the most beautiful mixes of each other. ¡Olé!
