The Origin of Latin Parades
Parades originated as religious and military processions.
Latin parades are influenced by Carnival, patron saint festivals, New Orleans funeral processions, and Cuban guaracha musical theatre traditions which would carry on into the streets
Guaracha was a naughty Cuban theater tradition that was often performed in bars. Think conga line. In Puerto Rico, guaracha evolved into the Parranda Christmas caroling tradition. Today the word means to have a wild party.
Many Latin parades end at a street fair.
