La MaMa is Home
Founded in 1961 by theatre legend Ellen Stewart, La MaMa is the last original Off-Off Broadway theatre. It produces excellent avant-garde theatre, and provides a space for artists to develop. It has four performance venues and an art gallery.
Since its founding, La MaMa has produced over 5,000 productions with over 150,000 artists from over 70 countries. Among them were many young artists who are now household names.
In 2018, La MaMa was honored with a Regional Theatre Tony Award. Productions have won many Obie, Drama Desk, Bessie and Villager awards. It’s a small theatre with a big heart. No matter where you are from, you are welcome here.
