The Public Theater is One of America’s Most Important Theaters

The Public Theater produces Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, new theatre at its Astor Place home base, and eclectic music at the Joe’s Pub night club.

In a reflection of New York City and America, The Public has become an industry leader in diversity.

A springboard to Broadway, film, and popular culture, The Public produces award-winning theater that defines generations.

It’s first production was 1967’s iconic hit musical “Hair.” 1975 brought “A Chorus Line.” In 2015, the Public premiered Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Hamilton,” the Broadway hit of our generation.
