The Future Fair is a new art fair. It opened virtually in 2020 because of the pandemic. Sometimes life’s interruptions force us to grow.
The fair is co-founded by Rachel Mijares Fick and Rebeca Laliberte. They consciously work to be more inclusive of artists and dealers who are women and people of color. The curators also encourage collaboration.
This really is the future because if we don’t get it together with everyone, humanity as we know it is doomed. We did this to ourselves, which means we can start to undo it ~ if we get together.
From our work in African Diaspora drum, song and dance traditions, we have noticed that whenever there is synchronization, magic can happen. Let’s sync with the Future Fair.
Future Fair 2021
The very first in-person Future Fair 2021 is in the Starrett-Lehigh Building in Chelsea, Manhattan Fri-Sun, September 10-12, 2021. $34. It’s also showing online from September 1-17. futurefairs.com
The show features 34 exhibitors and 16 special exhibition rooms.
The Starrett-Lehigh Building is a beautiful space. It was built as a West Side warehouse. It has elevators that are big enough to lift full-size semi-trucks. Today the building is popular with photographers. The south side is filled with light. The north side has that even light which artists prefer.
Latin art dealers include:
- Galerie RX is from New York and Paris, France. 🇫🇷
- TERN is from Nassau, The Bahamas. 🇧🇸
We hope the community will support the Future Fair. It represents the kind of collaboration that we all need.
