Monday, June 28, 2021 ~ The Fourth of July is Sunday and the holiday is next Monday.

On U.S. Independence Day, we celebrate ourselves, but seem to forget how our Declaration of Independence once inspired the world.

It is worth reading. The greatness and flaws are equally obvious. The Declaration and Constitution that followed, are great humanitarian documents, but failed Indigenous, African and Female Americans. The description of the tyrannies of the king is especially weird because it describes the behavior of some of our own politicians today.

Read it for yourself. It’s on each of us to keep the American Dream alive!

Wednesday July 14 is Bastille Day. The French national day commemorates the start of the French Revolution with the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris.

FIAF’s Bastille Day on 60th St block party moves to Central Park SummerStage on Bastille Day this year. Kavita Shah sings jazz. French developed ballet, invented cinema, and popularized high heels. Nouveau Cirque is French humor. The wine and cheese are very good. A lot of modern art was created in France. Paris was the capital of the world before New York City. Oh la la. Vive la France!

Monday evening is Eid al-Adha, the Muslim Festival of the Sacrifice, a tradition celebrated by all Abrahamic faiths. ☪️

Tuesday is Colombian Independence Day. 🇨🇴

Sunday is the Feast of St Christopher, patron saint of travelers, and Aggayú Solá, the orisha of volcanoes and powerful, flowing forces of nature, who also carries people across rivers.

Sunday is also the Feast of St James or Las fiestas Santiago Apóstol. He’s the patron saint of Spain, Guatemala and many small towns. 🇪🇸🇬🇹

Las fiestas Santiago Apóstol in Loíza is one of the most beautiful patron saint festivals in Puerto Rico. Loíza is known for its African Diaspora. It’s doubly important because it’s the home of the Ayala family, one of the leading families of bomba Puertorriqueña, and creator of the Loíza style of vejigante mask (coconut, not papier maché). 🇵🇷

Next Wednesday is the bicentennial of Peruvian Independence Day. 🇵🇪🇵🇪
