The United Nations was conceived as a world organization focused on peace and prosperity in 1942 during World War II. It was defined by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Roosevelt aide Harry Hopkins. It was officially founded in 1945.

Nelson Rockefeller (Standard Oil / ExxonMobil) ensured the UN would be in New York by buying and donating the land. The UN Headquarters opened in Midtown East in 1951.

The UN often seems to be completely incapable of solving problems, yet it is the only venue we have. Our big world problems can only be solved together.
