The Golden Globes by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association recognize excellence in film and television around the world.

74th Golden Globes 2017

The 74th Golden Globes were hosted by Jimmy Fallon on Sunday, January 8, 2017 on NBC with help from Drew Barrymore, Matt Damon, Nicole Kidman and Dominican-Puerto Rican-American actress Zoë Saldana.

Latin artists were all over the awards.

Paul Verhoeven’s French psychological thriller Elle won the Golden Globe for “Best Foreign Language Film.” It beat out Chilean director Pablo Larraín’s Neruda, French-Qatari drama Divines, Iranian-French drama The Salesman, and German-Austrian comedy-drama Toni Erdmann.

Puerto Rican-American actress Gina Rodriguez was nominated for “Best Actress in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy” for her outstanding work in the very funny English-language telenovela Jane the Virgin.

Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle was nominated for “Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy”

Puerto Rican-American playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda’s song How Far I’ll Go from Disney’s Moana was nominated for Best Original Song.

Mexican actor Gael García Bernal was nominated for “Best Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy” for Mozart in the Jungle

In the category “Best Actress, Drama” French actress Isabelle Huppert was nominated for for Elle, Natalie Portman was nominated for Jackie (Chilean director), and Amy Adams was nominated for Arrival (French-Canadian director).

Viggo Mortensen, the Danish-American actor who spent his childhood in Córdoba, Argentina was nominated for “Best Actor, Drama” for his work in Captain Fantastic.
