Artists Turned a Dump into a Sculpture Park

In the 1980s, sculptor Mark di Suvero and the local community turned an abandoned waterfront dump into a sculpture park. It became a New York City park in the 1990s. Suvero’s studio is next door. He is an important connection to the high-end art world. Suvero is known as the “last abstract impressionist” because most of the other giants of the genre have passed away.

The Socrates Annual is a summer residency that builds into a fall exhibition, bringing up the next generation of artists. We can’t imagine a greater gift than inspiring and mentoring young people.

The Socrates’ curation has long been as diverse as our City. Thank you!
