Alessandra Sanguinetti in New York City

Sanguinetti is represented in New York by Yossi Milo Gallery in Chelsea.

Her exhibition, Le Gendarme Sur La Colline (The policeman on the hill), is at the Aperture Foundation in Chelsea, April 27 – June 29, 2017. It is the second installment of Immersion, a French American Photography Commission by the Fondation d’entreprise Hermès and Aperture Foundation.

For this project, Sanguinetti traveled from Calais to Marseille and then spent time in Paris. She looks at how France is changing in a time of migration and other pressures. Instead of documenting, Sanguinetti brings her own storytelling perspective to the project.

After all, being French is as much a story as it is a reality. Perhaps being American or Argentine is just a story too.
