Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater is a New York modern dance company with a Latin touch led by the Mexican-born choreographer.
The company’s 40th Spring Series, Milestone, presents three world premieres alongside company classics at Manhattan Movement & Arts Center in the Upper West Side, Friday-Saturday, April 7-8, 2017.

Annabella Gonzalez is a National Treasure
Mexican-born choreographer Annabella Gonzalez founded the company in 1976, at a time when New York City was bursting with creative energy. She brings Latin classicism to modern movement and connects Latin America with Europe through New York. Ms. Gonzalez’ choreography is often filled with sly humor.
Ms. Gonzalez is multi-lingual in English, Spanish, and French. She holds a Master’s degree in Dance Education from Columbia University Teachers College, where she taught traditional Mexican dance.
Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater has an original repertoire of more than 70 dances. Leading a dance company for 40 years is no small feat. Ms. Gonzalez has been named “a national treasure.”
Milestone
The special 40th anniversary performance includes three world premieres.
Ms. Gonzalez offers Tribute, a group tribute to the country of her birth, with iconic Méxican songs including Tengo Un Amor (I have a Love) with Lucha Reyes and Mexico Lindo y Querido (Beautiful, beloved México) with Jorge Negrete.
Jina Parker’s Flip is a satire with music by Jacques Ibert about workaholic millennials who need to rediscover their sense of playfulness.
Esteban Arana and Leticia Pliego of Nu-Lu Danza present Attuned with a vibrant music collage that explores dramatic partnership.
The program reprises some Annabella Gonzalez Dance Theater classics.
Sexteto with music by Georg Philip Telemann presents three couples dancing in different styles (Latino, Ballet, and Modern) ingeniously fusing stylistically at the end.
Window, set to sounds of a country thunderstorm, explores a woman’s inner journey to escape a claustrophobic existence.
Mozartmania is a popular satire on exaggerated ballet steps set to Mozart’s Six German Dances.
Milestone is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. Additional support is provided by The Harkness Foundation for Dance, the Consulate General of Mexico and the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.
