The Antiquities auction at Christie’s in Rockefeller Center, Manhattan is October 31, 2018, Wednesday at 12 pm.

The auction exhibition is on view October 27 – 30, Saturday – Tuesday.


Antiquities Auction Highlights

101 lots of mostly Greek, Roman and Egyptian items are for sale.

The most important piece is an Assyrian Gypsum Relief of a Winged Genius from the reign of Ashurnasirpal II, circa 883-859 B.C. (Lot 101). It is from the Northwest Palace in Nimrud, Iraq, and was excavated in the 1840s. This is the most important Assyrian piece to enter the market in decades. (Lot 101). It sold for $30,968,750.

A lovely Roman Marble Torso of Hercules, circa 1st-2nd century A.D. is estimated at $2,500,000 – $3,500,000. It really is the Latin highlight of the sale. (See cover). Wish I had that body. (Lot 48). It sold for $2,414,500

A Roman Bigio Morato Marble Torso of a Youth, circa 2nd century A.D. is estimated at $150,000 – $250,000. (Lot 51). It sold for $312,500

A Roman Marble Archaistic Head of a Goddess, circa 1st century A.D. is estimated at $80,000 – $120,000. (Lot 47). It sold for $262,500

A very cute Roman Blue-Green Glass Mouse-Shaped Flask is estimated at $8,000 – $12,000. (Lot 85). It sold for $20,000.
