Ara Malikian Plays His Mad Violin at Carnegie Hall

Ara Malikian is an Armenian Lebanese Spanish pop violinist. We consider him Spanish because people are most defined by where they live now.

Ara Malikian

Ara Malikian is multicultural like the flamenco. He is of Armenian descent, born in Lebanon, and lives and works in Spain.

We met him through the Flamenco Festival New York. Flamenco is interesting because you can approach it from so many directions and they are all true. Malikian has a European classical music foundation. Within that, you can hear roma and klezmer music from Central Europe, Arab and Jewish melodies from the Middle East, and distant echoes from the mountains and grasslands between the Black and Caspian Seas. It’s quite a musical feast.

Malikian was nominated for a 2015 Latin Grammy for “Best Long Music Video.” After 24 albums and seven movie soundtracks, Malikian is an artist who is truly coming into his own on the international stage.
