The current Armory Show is the big contemporary art fair that anchors the Armory Week cluster of art fairs in New York City in March. The original Armory Show in New York City in 1913 introduced modern art to U.S. audiences.
26th Armory Show
The 26th Armory Show is at Piers 90 and 94 in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan from Thursday-Sunday, March 5-8, 2020.
This year features 183 galleries from 32 countries.
Pier 90 is curated exhibitions that address the current rethink of art and social satire. The Focus section examines revisionist histories. The Platform section features large scale installations of sociopolitical satire. The Perspectives section recontextualizes 20th century works in a contemporary setting.
Pier 94 is a constellation of exhibitions including the Galleries section of established art galleries, and the Presents section of young galleries.
The fair is rounded out with a Special Projects section of on and off-site projects, and a Curatorial Leadership Summit led by José Carlos Diaz, Chief Curator of the Andy Warhol Museum in Chicago.
The fair also awards four juried prizes for exceptional presentations in the main sections.
The Armory Show is a good mix of galleries and exhibitions that draws collectors and art lovers from around the world. Both the art and the people watching are great.
