Arturo Herrera ‘Paintings’ makes the leap to canvas

Arturo Herrera ‘Paintings’ at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. is an exhibition of the Venezuelan-born artist’s new work. It’s on Tuesday – Saturday, November 29, 2017 through January 20, 2018.

Herrera was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1959. He got a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa and an MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is an international artist who currently lives and works in Berlin.

This series marks the artist’s shift from collage, felt sculpture, and wall painting to painted canvas.

According to Ximena Ojeda, “Herrera’s painting reflects the voice of a colorful soul that can be heard through images, feelings and insights that surface.”

Though a change of medium, the work still looks like Arturo Herrera. The painting is flat, but the image inside it is not. It’s got a lot of dimension and movement.

This is Herrera’s seventh solo exhibition at Sikkema Jenkins & Co.
