Arturo O’Farrill and Friends close the ¡ Adelante Cuba ! Festival at New York City Center in Midtown, Manhattan on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 8 pm. From $35 #AdelanteCubaNYCC

The special guests are really special. 87-year old Omara Portuondo is a living legend from The Buena Vista Social Club. Other friends bring Havana Rap, Jazz piano, Classical orchestration, and Tap.

Arturo O’Farrill

Arturo O’Farrill is a six-time Grammy® Award winner and leader of The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.

He is from a great Cuban musical family. Arturo’s father was Cuban trumpeter, composer and bandleader Chico O’Farrill. Chico composed for Machito (Cuban father of Latin Jazz) and Benny Goodman. He arranged for Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Kenton and others. Arturo’s sons Zachary and Adam are also Jazz musicians.

Arturo was born in Mexico City, but raised in New York in his father’s Jazz and Latin Jazz worlds. Arturo took over his father’s orchestra’s legendary Sunday night gig at Birdland.

With the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra Arturo makes one Grammy-winning record after another.

Even with strong Cuban roots, the opening with Cuba has been a great discovery and inspiration for Arturo’s music.
