The band is from the capital Bogotá. The band’s name means “Velvet Ones” in English.

An important part of the Colombian rock scene, Aterciopelados have won four Latin Grammys and been nominated for eight. Like many Colombian rockers, they are known for their social consciousness. Aterciopelados takes what’s happening in the alternative rock world and makes it Colombian, in the same way the Joe Arroyo, the godfather of Colombian salsa, did with Latin music in the 1970s.

Their biggest hit is “Bolero Falaz” (1995). The song about the illusion of love was a big hit in Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Spain, and Venezuela.
