The BAFTA Awards (EE British Academy Film Awards) recognize excellence in English-language films from the past year.

They are a bellwether for the Oscars. Watch the BAFTAs to see which Latin films and filmmakers are recognized by the British Academy in February on the road to the Oscars in March.


71st BAFTA Awards 2018 Nominations

BAFTA Award nominations were announced by Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones) and Letitia Wright (Black Panther) on a Facebook livestream from BAFTA’s official page on Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at 3:30 am ET.

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water leads the nominations with twelve including best film, best director, best actress, and best supporting actress.

It seems odd that Elle is included here as it was released in the U.S. in 2016.

BBC One has exclusive rights to broadcast the BAFTAs. They broadcast the awards in the evening in the UK. It’s tough to watch them in the U.S., but they will be all over the news because of the Oscars are coming soon.
