The flagship store is on Madison Avenue. There are additional stores in SoHo, Chelsea, the Upper West Side, and Brooklyn.

About Barneys New York
Barney Pressman opened Barney’s in 1923 as a discount suit shop on Seventh Avenue and West 17th St. He offered good prices by purchasing brand name samples, overstocks, and closeouts. Barney’s also provided free alterations. He was a clever marketer.
His son Fred Pressman steered the business from discount to luxury, continued the free alterations policy, and focused on customer service.
In the 1970s Barney’s expanded into European designers and added women’s clothing. Barneys dropped the apostrophe in its name in 1981. In the 1990s Barneys moved to its Madison Avenue store. In 2016 Barneys opened on Downtown store in Chelsea on the same block as the original.
