Here are some explanations for our fellow New Yorkers who aren’t Brazilian.
- Baile Funk is a dance party in the Rio Favelas (and the music for it).
- MPB is Música Popular Brasileira, Brazilian Pop Music.
- Candomblé is the Brazilian form of the three main African Diaspora religions that developed in the Americas. Samba comes from it. Argentine Tango comes from Candomblé through the Uruguayan tradition Candombe, to Milonga, to Tango. We are mixes of each other.
- Samba is a Brazilian Party tradition that is most expressed in Carnival. Cuban Rumba, Puerto Rican Bomba, Colombian Cumbia, Venezuelan Tambor, and Peruvian Festejo are similar traditions in different regions.
