About Brian Lynch
Brian Lynch paid his dues with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, one of those little Jazz bands that spun off a bunch of world-class talent for over 30 years.
Lynch toured with Puerto Rican Salsa legend Hector Lavoe at the end of Lavoe’s career. Brian brought New York Puerto Rican Latin Jazz legend Eddie Palmieri out of retirement in 2006 for Simpático and won a Grammy award for his efforts.
We met Lynch at the Latin on Lex festival at the 92nd Street Y. Brian crosses over naturally between straight ahead Jazz and pure Latin.
His latest is Madera Latino!, an Afro-Caribbean take on the music of Woody Shaw, the American virtuoso trumpeter and Jazz leader. Madera Latino! was a 2017 Grammy nominee for “Best Latin Jazz Album.”
