Call Me by Your Name is Luca Guadagnino’s 2017 romantic coming-of-age movie set in 1983 northern Italy.

Luca Guadagnino is an Italian producer, director, and writer from Palermo, Sicily who was raised in Ethiopia. Guadagnino is known for A Bigger Splash (2015) and I am Love (2009).

This is a Sony Classics release.

Call Me by Your Name shows how love is love no matter what kind it is

The movie’s title suggests a very intimate bond, a blending of two into one. It recalls the Spanish-language expression “media naranja,” that translates literally as “half orange,” but actually means soulmate.

I always thought that was a silly romantic notion, until I met my media naranja. The kind of relationship where two become one is thrilling, but it is tough to maintain because in complete union, you lose yourself.

Call Me by Your Name is the story of a summer fling between Oliver (Armie Hammer), a twenty-something graduate student, and Elio (Timothée Chalamet), the teenage son of Oliver’s professor.

Elio is a smart young intellectual who is a music prodigy, but he knows nothing about love. He gets an education about love and being Jewish over a summer in beautiful northern Italy.

Call Me by Your Name Cast

Timothée Chalamet (Elio) is an Jewish – French – American New Yorker from Hell’s Kitchen. He is best known for the television series Homeland. His role as Elio is going to boost his career.

Armie Hammer (Oliver) is a Jewish – American actor from the Armand Hammer family. He played the Lone Ranger a few years back, and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for his work in J. Edgar (2011).
