La Vega Carnival 2023 (Carnaval Vegano) is the Dominican Republic’s oldest, biggest, and most popular carnival. About half a million people watch the celebration every year.
February in the Dominican Republic is one long Dominican party. We celebrate carnival every Sunday in February on the way to the climax of Santo Domingo Carnival. Celebrations of patron saint Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, founding father Juan Pablo Duarte, and Dominican Independence Day are blended into the fun.
Every little town celebrates with their own unique traditions. Dominican carnival groups are called “caves.”
Carnaval Vegano 2023
Carnival Vegano 2023, the Dominican Republic’s main carnival, is in La Vega, every Sunday, February 5, 12, 19 and 26, with a special climax on Dominican Independence Day, Monday, February 27, 2023. 🇩🇴
Dominican Carnival usually ends in Santo Domingo, the capital, on the last Sunday in February. But this year, it ends on Sunday, March 5, 2023. 🇩🇴

The Vegano marches on Pedro A. Rivera Avenue and Las Flores Park in the “Culta y Olimpica” city; at 7pm.
Carnival Theme
This year’s carnival theme is recovery and innovation.
In addition to the Carnival King and Carnival Queen, a Children’s Carnival Queen will be crowned to encourage young people to learn our traditions.
Look for the Diablos Cojuelos with their pork bladders.
