Central Park Tango is Romantic Summer Night Dancing

Central Park Tango is an outdoor milonga at the Shakespeare Statue at the south end of The Mall. A “milonga” is a tango dance party.

2021 was its 25th Year Silver Anniversary. Congratulations to the Central Park Tango team of volunteers. You bring a lot of love and joy to Central Park and the New York Tango Community. Thank you!

It’s free or pay-what-you-wish. We always give $10 or $20 when they pass the hat.

Central Park Tango is a great dance for beginners, but dancers of all levels go because it’s so beautiful.

The floor is paving stones so don’t wear good shoes. The organizers put down chalk that you can step in to make your shoes more slippery.

You don’t need a partner. You don’t even really need to know how to dance Tango. There is usually a free beginner’s lesson, and it’s a great dance for beginners. The experts will gladly teach you.

The dress code is very casual. It’s Central Park. Many people just watch. If you’ve never seen tango, it might make you want to learn to dance. That’s what happened to us.

Central Park Tango 2023

Central Park Tango 2023 is Saturdays, June 3 – September 29, 2023.

Visiting Central Park Tango

The Shakespeare Statue is closer to the East Side. The closest entrance is on Fifth Avenue just south of 67th St. As you enter the Park, listen for tango music. You should hear it before you reach East Dr (the Central Park ring road). Just follow your heart to the tango beat…

Do pay what you can. The organizers give a lot of their own time, and have been doing so for years. They have equipment and travel costs too. Most milongas in New York City charge $15-20 per person.

Watching the sun go down among the trees and walking home through Central Park is very romantic. Central Park Tango is inolvidable (unforgettable).
