Christie’s Latin American Art auction in May closes the Spring auction season.

The Exhibition goes on view Saturday, May 20 at 10am.
The Evening sale is Wednesday, May 24 at 5pm.
The Day Sale is Thursday, May 25 at 12noon.
The sale of almost 250 lots includes may pieces from prominent collections: The Tuttleman Collection; CUBA MODERNA: Masterworks from a Private Collection; The Collection of Dr. Jerome and Mrs. Evelyn Oremland; and The Juan María Altgelt Collection.
Músicos
The auction is led by Rufino Tamayo’s Músicos (1934). Tamayo played guitar himself and met his wife, a concert pianist, while painting his first mural at the National School of Music.
The painting though muted, has an almost carnival-like playfulness. It is estimated to sell at $2,000,000 to $3,000,000.
Highlights
Popular Colombian artist Fernando Botero is present with Woman with an Umbrella and Man with a Cane (c. 1977).
Costa Rican-born Mexican artist Francisco Zúñiga is represented by Grupo de cuatro mujeres de pie (1974).
