Colombian Film Festival New York 2019
Opening Night
The Festival opens with a screening of Somos Calentura followed by a cocktail reception.
Somos Calentura (We are the Heat) is a story of Buenaventura, a major port on the Colombian Pacific near Cali. Buenaventura is also the main shipping point of Colombian cocaine which creates problems for the local community.
Closing Night
The Festival closes with a screening of Birds of Passage, Colombia’s 2018 entry to the Academy Awards. The film made the Best Foreign Language Film shortlist.
It’s story of how the marijuana trade impacted the Wayuu people of the Guajira Peninsula on Colombia’s Caribbean coast next to Venezuela.

Frankly, Colombia’s biodiversity remains with us today because of the longest civil war in the Americas. Now that peace is coming to Colombia, scientists and former fighters can work together to preserve this beautiful land for future generations.
