Angelica de la Riva is a Brazilian-Cuban opera singer based in New York City who performs around the world at venues like Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center.

Sinatra – Jobim Sessions

Angelica de la Riva and American Jazz singer Hilary Gardner sing a concert of “The Sinatra – Jobim Sessions” at New York City’s Sheen Center on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 8pm. Tickets $20-$30.

“The Sinatra – Jobim Sessions” (1979) is a compilation of collaborations between Frank Sinatra and Antônio Carlos Jobim.

The Jazz and Bossa Nova legends started recording together in 1967 and 1968. Sinatra was at his peak and the Samba-Jazz of Bossa Nova was a hot new sound. Sinatra sang Jazz classics in a Bossa Nova style along with original Jobim compositions that are now classics too.

De la Riva and Gardner bring this classic music back to life with an outstanding quintet of legendary Brazilian and NY based musicians including Helio Schiavo on drums Rubens de la Corte on guitar, Eduardo Belo on bass, Grammy Award-nominee Manuel Valera on piano and Joel Frahm on sax.

Hilary Gardner was chosen by the Frank Sinatra estate to sing live onstage in Twyla Tharp’s Tony Award-winning “Come Fly Away.” This is the real deal – Brazil and Jazz together.

Angelica describes the music, “It’s actually the first time I will be singing this kind of music on stage, a genre so dear to my heart, the music I grew up listening and singing to when I wasn’t singing along with my father’s vinyls of Pavarotti, Callas, Freni, Pavarotti and Tebaldi.”

Sublime!
