The Dzul Dance Tree of Life Trilogy explores the spiritual connections between all living things. The Tree of Life is a universal symbol that exists in every mythology and every religion. This ancient concept is actually very contemporary. It also exists in science.
Artistic Director Javier Dzul is Mayan Mexican. “Wisdom is eternal and the power of myth is universal, so I rely on my Mayan heritage for inspiration,” explained Dzul. Universal symbols offer the possibility of universal healing, regardless of our individual identities.
The Dzul Dance Tree of Life Trilogy intends to be not just a performance, but a unifying moment for people of all cultures and especially the Mexican-American and Latino communities of greater New York City.
The Trilogy begins on 12/12 (December 12) which is an important date in both Mayan and Mexican culture. We hope you will join us for this special moment.

“Soul of the Maya” explores Mayan beliefs about where souls are created and how souls move through the eternal cycle of life, death, and reincarnation.
Kuxan Sum ~ Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 8pm
“Kuxan Sum” is the umbilical cord that connects every human being to the three planes of existence: the underworld, earth, and heaven. This dance explores how ancient leaders gained creative power for their people by opening doors between the realms.
Wacah Chan ~ Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 8pm
“Wacah Chan” is Mayan for the snake with two faces. This dance explores how the cycle of life connects the past, the present, and the future. It asks the existential question of how we hold on to our roots when we live in a completely different culture. Do we hold tightly to the past, let it go completely, or find a way to transform?
