Edgar Degas: A Strange New Beauty at the Museum of Modern Art March 26 – July 24, 2016 exhibits rare Degas monotype prints and considers their impact.
Monotypes are drawings done on a metal plate which is then printed, usually once. Degas used oil paint instead of ink and made multiple prints from a plate. He was fascinated with how the image degraded and loved to play with the process.
