Esteban Vicente was a Spanish painter and art teacher (1903 – 2001) who made his name in Post War New York City.
Vicente was born in Turégano, Spain in 1903. He had his first exhibition at the Ateneo de Madrid. Vicente first came to New York City in 1936. After the war, he ran with the Abstract Expressionists in New York City.
Vicente was an influential teacher. He taught at Black Mountain College, the New York Studio School, and University of California at Berkeley.
The Spanish government opened the Esteban Vicente Museum of Contemporary Art in Segovia, Spain in 1998.
Vicente died at his studio in Bridgehampton, Long Island in 2001.
