The September full moon is the Corn Moon or the Barley Moon. The September or October full moon nearest the Fall Equinox is called the Harvest Moon.
Full moon names in the United States follow Northeastern Native American traditions. This moon is called the “Corn Moon” because it rises when corn is ready to harvest in the Northeast.
Interestingly, many of the Native American names for full moons are similar to the European names. It’s yet another example of how people are people. We do similar things around the world and across time.
