Gonzalez y Gonzalez is a Salsa and Bachata Dance Club with Live Music on Weekends

Gonzalez y Gonzalez is a Mexican restaurant, and salsa and bachata dance club with live music in Greenwich Village.

There is live music and DJs for dancing Friday through Sunday, with some Thursdays. Sundays are earlier, so it’s good for family day.

There are free salsa dance lessons on Salsa Thursdays at 8:45pm; and free bachata dance lessons on Bachata Sundays at 7:45pm. They are free, but it’s good luck to tip the teacher.

Many of New York’s top salsa and bachata bands play here. There is a young crop of great new artists, and some legends. It is the home club of FANIA All-Star Johnny “Dandy” Rodriguez (Tito Puente, Tito Rodríguez, Ray Barretto, Típica 73).

Salsa is Cuban, but the way we play and dance it now, comes from Puerto Rican and Dominican New York City. On different nights, you can dance to Puerto Rican, Cuban, Colombian, Dominican, Peruvian, or Venezuelan flavors of salsa, son cubano, merengue or bachata.

There may be cumbia and timba too.

GyG is a reliable place for a fun night out. The music is Latin, but everybody goes. It’s popular with the NYU (New York University) crowd. The Mexican food and margaritas are pretty good.
