Pedro Giraudo is a Latin Grammy-winning Argentine Tango and Jazz bassist, composer and leader. He’s one of the few Tango musicians in New York City who really knows how to play Tango for dancers.
Guillermina Quiroga
Guillermina is from La Plata, the popular seaside town just outside of Buenos Aires. There she studied Ballet and then performed at Teatro Argentino de La Plata, an important classical arts school and performing arts center in Argentina.
Tango X2
She moved to Buenos Aires and won the Buenos Aires City Tango Championships with Osvaldo Zotto in 1989. Zotto’s brother Miguel Àngel Zotto cast them in “Tango X2,” the Tango show that made the dance cool for young Argentines.
Tango Argentino
Legendary producer Claudio Segovia brought Guillermina into “Tango Argentino,” a revival of the Tango show that had spawned the Tango Renaissance in 1983.
She performed at the 1994 World Cup opening ceremony and toured the world for years with Spanish singer Julio Iglesias.
In 1996, Guillermina and Roberto Reis [Editor co-Keith: the first teacher who really got me to dance] choreographed the ice dance “Tanguera” produced by Mariano Mores (another legendary Tango producer) for a pair of ice dance world champions and Olympic gold medalists.
Assassination Tango
Guillermina danced in Robert Duvall’s famous Tango movie “Assassination Tango” (2002). She also starred in Rogelio Lobato’s “Valentina’s Tango” (2007).
In 2003, she produced her own Tango show “Tango, Historias Breves.”
Forever Tango
In 2004, Guillermina was an original cast member of Luis Bravo’s “Forever Tango” on Broadway. The way New York dances Tango today was learned from this cast.
For the last few years, Guillermina’s been dancing and teaching with Mariano Logiudici, a martial arts champion. The passion of a ballerina and a martial artist is a pretty good description of the stage form of Argentine Tango.
She just never stops. New York Argentines say that watching Guillermina dance makes them cry. If you ask why, they will tell you it’s because they will never dance like her. She’s really something.
