How to be a Latin Lover makes fun of the old stereotypes
Maximo (Eugenio Derbez) makes a living seducing rich older women. After 25 years of living in luxury, the slightly over-the-hill Maximo gets dumped for a younger guy by his now 80 year-old wife. Maximo has to go live with his estranged sister Sara (Salma Hayek) and her son Hugo in their small apartment.
Like a good uncle, Maximo starts teaching Hugo everything he knows, which is how to seduce women. When Maximo finds out that Hugo’s crush is the grandaughter of Celeste (Raquel Welch), a widowed billionaire, Maximo thinks he has found his next meal ticket.
As Maximo tries to recover his gigolo game, he comes to realize that the only important thing in life is family.

Lead actor and producer Eugenio Derbez is a huge star in the world of Mexican television and film. He is known for his work in telenovelas, variety shows, and movies. Derbez stars, produces, directs, and writes. His Instructions Not Included (2013) was a hit in both the U.S. and Mexico. It was the most successful Spanish-language film ever in both the U.S. and around the world.
Salma Hayek is a Mexican-American actress of Lebanese and Spanish descent. She started acting in Mexican telenovelas, but has grown into directing and producing. Hayek’s break-out movie was a memorable starring role in Frida (2002).
Raquel Welch is an American actress known for playing strong female characters in the late 1960s and 1970s. Her breakthrough film was Fantastic Voyage (1966). A publicity photograph from One Million Years B.C. (1966) made Welch a sex symbol. She was born Jo Raquel Tejada. Welch has a Bolivian-English heritage. She changed her name to avoid being typecast as a Latina.
