Juan Garaizabal (1971) is an artist from Madrid, Spain who is known for his monumental public Urban Memories sculptures.

The Urban Memories sculptures resurrect architectural fragments of structures that no longer exist. In this way Garaizabal connects the past with the present.

Garaizabal got started as an artist by building lofts. He began created sculptures to go in his lofts. That launched his career.

The artist lives and works between Madrid, Berlin, and Miami.

Juan Garaizabal Build a Story. Urban Memory of the Lost Tuileries. opens with a reception for the artist at De Buck Gallery in Chelsea, Thursday, June 8 from 6-8pm. In this series, Garaizabal works to revive memories of the social upheavals that took place at the Palais des Tuileries in Paris.

The artist’s first New York show runs through July 15, 2017.
