Juan Luis Guerra is a beloved Dominican merengue and bachata star who is a 3x Grammy and 21x Latin Grammy winner. Guerra is one of the artists who popularized bachata internationally. He is a huge star, but a good person. Fans love and respect him for that in addition to his music.

Guerra released “Literal,” his 14th studio album on May 31, 2019. It won Best Contemporary Tropical/Tropical Fusion Album at the 20th Latin Grammy Awards on November 14, 2019.

Juan Luis Guerra

Guerra was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on June 7, 1957. He earned a degree in jazz composition from the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston in 1982.

Soplando

1984 ~ Back in the DR, he put together a band called the 440 (that’s the frequency of a tuning fork A used to tune string instruments) and released his first album Soplando (I’m Blowing).

After that he began playing more merengue.

1988 ~ The album (I hope it rains coffee) was Guerra’s international breakthrough.

Bachata Rosa

1992 ~ Guerra won a Grammy Award for Best Tropical Latin Album.

La Llave de Mi Corazon

2008 ~ Guerra won another Grammy for Best Tropical Latin Album.
