Laura was born in Faenza, Emilia–Romagna, Italy, in 1974. She began performing as a child with her father in local piano bars. Pausini’s breakthrough came in 1993 when she won the Sanremo Music Festival. Her winning song “La solitudine” became an Italian standard and an international hit.
Laura recorded her debut album “Laura Pausini” (1993) while still in high school. It became an international hit as did her sophomore album “Laura.” “Laura” was also popular in Brazil and Argentina, two countries with a strong Italian heritage. It also charted in the U.S.
In 1994, Laura released a Spanish-language album “Laura Pausini” (Dro Records). The Spanish-language versions of her previous recordings were popular in Spain, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.
In 1996, Pausini released “Le cose che vivi” in Italian and “Las cosas que vives” in Spanish. She has used this Italian / Spanish model ever since.
Pausini won a Grammy for “Escucha” (Best Latin Pop Album, 2006) and three Latin Grammys for (Best Female Pop Vocal) for “Escucha” (2005), “Yo canto” (2007), and “Primavera anticipada” (2009). She’s been nominated for an Emmy and for an Academy Award.
Laura is also a judge in the popular entertainer reality show “La Banda” on Univision. In 2022 she released her first movie “Laura Pausini Piacere di Conoscerti” (Un Placer Conocerte) on Prime Video.
