Les Contes d’Hoffmann is Jacques Offenbach’s French comic opera about a series of love affairs. It premiered at the Paris Opéra-Comique in 1881.

Jacques Offenbach (1819 – 1880) was a German-born French composer. He was the son of a cantor. Offenbach is known for his operettas. Les Contes d’Hoffmann is his most famous work.

E.T.A. Hoffmann is the author of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King on which The Nutcracker ballet is based.


Les Contes d’Hoffmann Performances

The Metropolitan Opera presents nine performances of Les Contes d’Hoffman from September 26 through October 28, 2017.

Italian tenor Vittorio Grigolo stars as Hoffman. Johannes Debus conducts.
