Lorenzo Cascio
Lorenzo Cascio was born in Sicily in 1940. Today he lives and works in Portofino, a seaside town near Genoa.
At the beginning of his career, Cascio opened a school that taught ancient ceramic art traditions. He casts bronze sculpture using the lost wax method. His painting technique includes oil and collage.
Cascio works in the realm of myth: ancient, Christian, and contemporary. Cascio’s groups of figures often have that penetrating gaze of Picasso’s Les Demoiselles d’Avignon. His horses have a regal bearing like decorations on ancient Roman pottery, but they seem ready to leap off the canvas.
Cascio has designed bronze doors for many Italian churches and produced many public sculptures.
