Luisa Miller is an Italian tragic opera by Giuseppe Verdi. It’s about a poor woman loved by a rich man, though they are both destined to be married to others because of their social status.

Giuseppe Verdi

Giuseppe Verdi (1813 – 1901) was an Italian composer who was one of the leading opera composers in history.

His most famous operas are Rigoletto, Il trovatore, and La traviata. He also composed Aida, Requiem, Otello, and Falstaff.

Luisa Miller marks Verdi’s transition from youthful vitality to his more mature middle period when he created his most popular works.

Luisa Miller

Verdi wrote Luisa Miller in 1849. It premiered at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy, and premiered at The Met in 1929.

Salvadore Cammarano wrote the Italian libretto. It is based on the German play Kabale und Liebe (Intrigue and Love) by Friedrich von Schiller.
