Macy’s Holiday Windows are a New York holiday tradition that began in 1874.

There will certainly be changes to avoid crowding during the COVID-19 Pandemic, but the Macy’s Holiday Windows are on display from November 19, 2020 through January 1, 2021.

Give, Love, Believe

That’s a great theme for our time. This season’s windows are a love letter to first responders, essential workers, and everyday New Yorkers who come together to support our city.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, wearing a mask is an act of giving protection to the community, an act of loving yourself and your family, and demonstrates the belief that we can get through this together.

Macy’s 2020 Holiday Windows

The plan this year is to put six more traditional windows along Broadway, and a series of new interactive digital windows along 34th St. The digital windows celebrate the magic of Santa Claus. Unfortunately Macy’s SantaLand (Santa Claus meet and greet) is closed this year so this is how we greet Santa.

Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn

Macy’s Downtown Brooklyn is putting up “Thank You” holiday windows from November 27, 2020 through January 1, 2021.

Macy’s Holiday Windows are a Huge Production

Macy’s started the Christmas window tradition in 1874, and started animating them in 1899.

As many as 10,000 people per hour visit the Herald Square windows.

It takes a team of 200 of Santa’s helpers an entire year to design the windows and three weeks to install them.
