Mariah went from working in a restaurant to stardom in 1988 when Columbia Records chief Tommy Mottola listened to her demo tape. The first four singles from her first self-titled album reached number one. She won “Best New Artist” and “Best Female Pop Vocal Performance” for “Vision of Love;” at the 1991 Grammys.
Carey’s 1994 Merry Christmas album with “All I Want for Christmas is You” is the best-selling Christmas album of all time.
