Michael Eastman
Michael Eastman is an American artist born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1947. He is a self-taught photographer who has documented interiors in Havana, Paris, Rome, New Orleans and other cities over the last fifty years.
Eastman’s work is filled with a grand stillness and the passing of the ages. His photos make you wonder what happened there once upon a time.
Eastman’s photography has appeared in Time, Life, Art in America, and other leading magazines.
His work is in collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, International Center of Photography, Art Institute of Chicago, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and other prestigious institutions.
Eastman is represented by Edwynn Houk Gallery in New York City and Zurich, Switzerland.

Buenos Aires – Southern Light
Buenos Aires was once the Paris of South America. Argentines are mostly Italian, but have a close relationship with France because Paris was long the world capital (until New York took the mantle in 1945).
Back in the day, Argentines were known for being filthy rich. Avenida de Mayo, the main street of Buenos Aires, looks like a slightly run down Belle Époque Paris.
Entering some of these buildings, you feel like you have entered a museum. You also feel a very Argentine melancholy sense of paradise lost. Argentina was once one of the world’s top 10 economies.
Eastman captures that Argentine melancholy like a good Tango.
The show opens with a reception for the artist on Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 6 – 8 pm.
