Zinc Bar is a classic underground Greenwich Village Jazz club in the historic space of the former Cinderella Club. The owners are New York Argentines. 🇦🇷

It’s a small club so the earlier you go, the better seat you’ll get. With shows that include African drums, we like to be as close to those healing instruments as possible. But a big brass line may blow you away, so decide what you like.

Zinc Bar is a Cinderella Story
Walking around Greenwich Village, you used to hear jazz floating up out of basements on almost every block. Not any more, but Zinc Bar is a little bit of what New York City used to be.
From the 1930s to the 1950s, the space was the Cinderella Club. The house pianist was Thelonious Monk. Billie Holiday sang there. You might see people like Mae West and Frank Sinatra in the audience.
In the 1960s and 1970s it became a late night club Tenth of Always and then Bonnie & Clyde’s, a famous lesbian bar. In the 1980s and 1990s, the space became The Baggot Inn comedy club. It was last an Irish rock club.
Today the bar is owned by an Argentine family. Maybe that is why it has an international sound. You will hear bossa nova, cumbia, flamenco, rumba, son, tango, and all that jazz.
Sunday nights are Tango nights with live music. You can go and listen, or watch, and you can dance too. New York City’s Argentine community loves it.
The club is like an old movie set. It’s worth visiting for that old vibe. Whatever your Latin jazz thing is, you are sure to find a shoe that fits at Zinc Bar.
