Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park NYC is a 28-acre recreational park with athletic amenities on the Hudson River in Hamilton Heights.
Performance venues include an 800-seat theater, 400-seat amphitheater. Sports amenities include a 2,500-seat athletic complex with track and fitness room, Olympic-size pool, skate rink for ice and roller skating, baseball field, tennis courts, and a kids’ playground. There is also an upscale Puerto Rican restaurant (which makes it complete of course, LOL).
Plena Libre Plays Puerto Rican Plena for Carnegie Hall Citywide at Riverbank State Park
Plena is Puerto Rican folk music of the streets. The singing, hand drumming and dancing are often called, “the sung newspaper” for their role in sharing current events with the community.
Plena Libre is one of the bands leading a renewal of this living Folk tradition with contemporary fusions. They also play some Bomba and Música Jíbara. 30 years and 15 albums have earned four Grammy nominations. Wow!
Singing Plenas is a part of many family gatherings in Puerto Rico, especially around the holidays. Go and sing along. Feel the community in your chest. Plena is fun!
