Morningside Heights is a quiet residential neighborhood on the hills of Upper Manhattan. It has beautiful views of the Hudson River and the rooftops of Harlem. Broadway is the main street.

The neighborhood is home to Columbia University so it is full of teachers and students. It is also the home of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Riverside Church, the Manhattan School of Music, Riverside Park and Grant’s Tomb.

Tom’s Diner from the Suzanne Vega song (1987) and Seinfeld is on Broadway at 112th. It’s just a diner, but it’s kind of fun to go there. Do-do, do-do, Do-de-do-do…

The neighborhood is served by the (1) line.

Some people take the (A)(C)(B) and walk up the hill.


Parks

The neighborhood is served by Riverside Park along the Hudson River and by Morningside Park on the eastern border.


Libaries

The New York Public Library runs two libraries in the neighborhood: Morningside Heights branch and the George Bruce branch.


Government

Morningside Heights is governed by Manhattan Community District 9 and the Manhattan Borough President, and New York City Council District 7. In the U.S. Congress, it is represented by New York District 10.
