Astoria, Queens is the northwest corner of Queens, across the East River from Manhattan. It’s the home of the Museum of the Moving Image, Noguchi Museum, and Socrates Sculpture Park.

The Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (Triborough) and Hell Gate Bridge leap across the East River from Astoria Park.

Astoria Park is the big park. There are also Hallets Point, Socrates Sculpture Park and Rainey Park.


Astoria Communities

Astoria, Queens (James/Adobe)

The neighborhood was first settled in the 1600s by Dutch, English and German immigrants. Irish followed, then Italians. The Bohemian Hall (1910) beer garden is a remnant.

It became NYC’s Greek neighborhood in the 1960s. Steinway St between 28th Ave and Astoria Blvd was a “Little Egypt” in the 1990s. A Brazilian community grew up around 36th Avenue.

The Spanish community is big enough to support two social clubs: Circulo Español and Casa Galicia.

The neighborhood is Queens Community District 1 which works with the Queens Borough President.

The neighborhood is represented by New York Congressional District 12 and New York Congressional District 14.
