The Outsider Art Fair New York 2023 shows art “art brut” or “naïve art” created by untrained artists outside the art-industrial complex. It often looks like children’s art, but can be very sophisticated.
The term “outsider art” was coined by art critic Roger Cardinal in 1972 after Jean Dubuffet’s “art brut” of the 1940s. Outsider art is very popular in the French community.
